Early Evening Five-Miler.

The Benefits of Walking After Supper.

I have been taking more evening walks lately because my mornings and afternoons are busier, full. My motorcycle and workshop always lure me away from walking routes and running shoes during spring and summer.

In the early evening the day's temperature cools down and I feel like I can walk farther and faster than during the heat of the day. Other people skate, walk, bike or run past me. Surely some of them feel that the evening is the best time of day for their activity as well.

NP17 means.... walk 17 out of 120 in a set of walks entitled "No Pressure"

I aim to bring my weekly mileage to 26.5 miles (marathon distance)

8 PM. Nice time of day

See you out there after supper?

Five-Milers Seem to Work

This week started off busy and will end busy.

Initially, I did not think I'd get very fair this week mileage-wise - what with projects and deadlines - but I'm farther along than I'd hoped. If I head out the door tonight for my fourth five-miler in a row, I'll end the week with 26.5 miles of walking.

 Three five-milers in a row

Found time to motorcycle to Port Bruce - twice

Found time to admire fresh apricot blossoms

Trains come and go beside the Terry Fox Pathway

Are you headin' out the door tonight?

No Pressure: A Low Mileage Week.

And That's AOK.

This trail heads east, toward Meadowlily Hill

There are a lot of good trails in London, not just great for walking as one visits interesting corners of the city of London, but for running and cycling as well.

This could be a low mileage week because I have spoons in several pots at the moment, but I'm sure I will make up for it later. Maybe I'll even dust off my solid Miele bicycle and, in between motorcycle rides, pedal to far off places on - even past - the edge of town.

Photos from along the way:

Slow start to the week. Big finish? (No pressure)

While heading west, I cut Monday's walk short. Storm was in the air.

No Pressure: Steady Eddie Likes the Warmer Weather

As the earth warms, the grass greens. And as the grass greens, spirits rise.

I walked through Harris Park yesterday, early afternoon, and later played hockey. During both activities I whistled a happy tune [e.g., between shifts as a power forward : ) ] because I had juice, pep and spring in my legs from steady winter walking. Energy levels feel a bit higher every time I step out the door now.

More spring colours in my colour-co-ordinated walking gear!
Yesterday's walk, NP2 (No Pressure 2) was smooth and steady.

Weekly mileage totals from my last ten weeks of walking - steady!

More spring colours are on the way!

Walking trails extend East Of Adelaide to Meadowlily Bridge!
Lots of good walking EOA since 1873, I believe

Happy trails.

No Pressure: Onward and Outward.

My next set of walks will keep me going - out the door - until September.

September 1st, approximately.

Yesterday (April 3, 2017) I walked 5.25 miles on the Terry Fox Parkway, then partied - Happy Hour in the workshop - because the walk was number 120 in a set I called TZ2, or Transition Zone Squared. My goal was to complete 120 walks during the winter months (starting November 10, 2016) and I did so without worry or injury or any fuss and bother.

My new goal is to complete 130 walks during the summer months. And though I will likely run a bit more this year than last (I've already started to do so, and I think it feels easier so far), I will put "no pressure" (NP) upon myself to become a running marvel during that time period.

Sure, I'd like to run a 10-Km. road race in the fall, nice-and-easy-like, because I'm getting low on T-shirts.... but again.... no pressure. My numbers are good, and that's what I want to maintain in 2017.

By The Numbers:

During TZ2 I completed 120 walks in 145 days

My GOTD (Get Out The Door) rate was therefore 82.8% during that set.

My GOTD rate for March was 83.9%, so I'm holding that number steady.

During TZ2 I covered 557 miles, or 26.9 miles per week.

As of April 1st, my (previous) 10-week average was 28.7 miles per week.

Key stats are steady so I'm a happy camper and The GREAT Canadian Comeback is well in hand.

Photos from along the way:

My Yamaha did not start on Sunday so I "imagined"
the view of the pier in Port Bruce

Sunday was an incredibly nice day for walkn and running

Yesterday was a mild but gray day, today the same

Today I will complete the first walk in the set called "No Pressure" (NP, on the Comeback Kid).

NP1.... coming up. Stay tuned for more photos from along the way.
